In travelling to Kilimanjaro Airport, my friends and I took a flight from Singapore to Mumbai, staying for a 8 hour transit there before flying to Nairobi for a shorter transit of 2 hours. We then took a one hour connecting flight to Kilimanjaro from Nairobi. Unfortunately for us, our flight from Mumbai to Nairobi got delayed by 2 hours. As a result, we missed our connecting flight from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro. More worryingly, our next flight out from Nairobi would be 9 hours later, at 8 am.
In other words, we would be spending an unscheduled night in Nairobi, Kenya. This post chronicles our experience and the claim process upon return to Singapore. We were enroute to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and do a safari tour (see Part1 and Part2) after that.

Pre- Kilimanjaro hike, we were out to explore Marangu and heading back to Keys Hotel in Moshi, we came across rays of light bathing the road in the far distance. Quickly, I grabbed my camera and snapped this picture – an ethereal moment captured for all eternity.
Introduction to Postcards
updated 01 June:
When I am exploring a new country I like to visit their souvenir shops and buy some postcards to send back to my friends and family back in Singapore. Inevitably, these postcards would contain some iconic scenes from that city. If it’s a hiking town, there will be pictures of mountains; If it’s a town famous for street art, these will be plastered on them.
It’s really nice to send friends and family a small bit of that town has to offer. And my “postcards” series of blog post attempts to do just that – distilling the essence of a particular place or moment to a short post to share to readers as much as myself.
In this post, we will be going through days 2 and 3 of the game drive in Tanzania. You can find Part 1 here where we visited Tarangire National Park and spotted 3 out of 5 of the “big five” list of animals. Days 2 and 3 will take you through Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Manyara National Park.
The safari game drive was what my friend and I did after climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and celebrating Singapore’s 50th national day in the process.

Part II will take you through Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Lake Manyara National Park in days 2-3.
So if you are ready to have a taste of driving on the wild side, buckle up and bring out your binoculars…

On 1 August 2015, my friends and I landed in Kilimanjaro Airport. Our aim: To reach the summit of Kilimanjaro on 9 Aug 15 which would also mark Singapore’s 50th year of independence. This post traces our 8 day journey along the Northern Circuit and sets out what you can expect to experience en route.
